In case work and school have you in a slump, these fall music selections should be added to your playlist to achieve maximum relaxation. Below are a few artists to zone out to during the fall season.
If you are looking for music to match with the oncoming autumn weather, look no further than Keshi. With his soulful melodies and calming beats, Keshi’s soothing tracks are sure to make a great addition to any study time or calming day playlist.
“Drunk” is Keshi’s most recent single to be released before the introduction of his upcoming album. From the artist’s perspective, the song mainly focuses on feelings of reminiscence and wanting to return to relationships that can no longer be continued. This track would be great background music for a cold autumn day if you want to keep the mood generally relaxed and laid back.
This track is the title track from Keshi’s sophomore EP Skeletons. The song was written about feelings of hesitance and questioning towards the profession that they’ve chosen and feelings of resentment towards not pursuing the careers that they would have preferred. This song may resonate with many as we are actively engaged in the fall semester of college. If you need something to mellow out to and help you unwind from academic stress consider giving Skeletons a listen!
“Blue” is included in Keshi’s Bandaids EP and focuses on the subject of withering friendships and interpersonal relationships that change throughout time due to outlying factors. This track may be able to make connections with its listeners, as we have all witnessed our lives change with time. The mellow beat captures these feelings of change and reflects well on the brisk season. This song is great to blast during a late night drive through the city with friends or during a great night out with those closest to you.
Lauv will make a great addition to any playlist, but the songs below are tracks that I feel might fit the fall season. This artist is great to blast in your car during a long drive on a cold day, in the mornings for a mild energy boost, or if you’re simply enjoying some down time at home.
“Changes” comes off of Lauv’s studio album How I’m Feeling and primarily revolves around making self changes for the better. This track is included as a bit of a pick-me-up song for anyone feeling a bit under the weather or stuck in a rut due to the stress of academics and the disproportionality in current society. Hopefully this gives listeners a bit of inspiration during the fall season.
“Feelings” is another track off of the album How I’m Feeling and the best way to describe this song would possibly be that this song is right in line with cuffing season. Its chilled out and positive beats make it a great song to dance to with a partner or even just with your closest group of friends. This song is great to blast through your computer speakers during a Zoom dance party with respective friends or partners on a cold morning to get the energy flowing and give your day a positive start.
“Modern Loneliness” is another song off of the studio album How I’m Feeling, and this track feels like it can sum up the current experience of quarantine and social distancing. The song’s main focus centers around being surrounded by loved ones yet continuously feeling alone. Given the current climate many feel disconnected and reminiscent of pre-pandemic social life, missing personal interaction with those closest to them. Given also that the weather seems to be getting increasingly gloomy and cold, the chances of spending time outdoors grows slimmer. This track seems to hit close to home in these times and if listeners are looking to vibe to a track that speaks to these feelings, consider adding “Modern Loneliness” to your fall playlist.
slchld
“My Stargirl” comes from slchld’s Innocence EP, in which the Korean R&B singer uses sensual and calming beats and melodies to describe feelings towards a romantic interest. Again this track works well as we fall into “cuffing season.” This song would be great for cuddling up with a significant other or long time partner on a cold day and enjoy some calming music while staying warm.
“She Likes Spring, I Prefer Winter” is from slchld’s album My Insecurities, Not Yours. This track is great to listen to on a long car ride with a significant other thanks to the song’s upbeat melody and its connection to the concept of sentimental relationships and gratitude towards a loved one.
Another great track from the album My Insecurities, Not Yours is the title track. This song is a stark contrast to the previous selection as this feels more in line with a loving yet sad mood that we often experience within relationships. This song fits within the fall season thanks to the melancholy yet sweet nature of the song which can pair nicely with the chilly fall season. If you’re interested in finding a song to vibe out to while wrapped in a warm blanket consider adding slchld to your playlist!
DVWN
“Fairy,” by DVWN (like DAWN) is a song off of his EP Panorama, and again this song fits well with the concept of relationships blossoming in the fall season. For anyone feeling romantic this fall fairy is a great track to listen to due to it’s sweet and soft vocals and soulful beat.
“Phobia” is another song from DVWN’s EP Panorama. This song pairs well with the bleak fall weather and is a great choice to cuddle up to with a cup of tea or coffee in hand in a big comfortable sweater. Let the slow soulful track help you relax and melt away the stress.
“Last” is the first released track from DVWN’s freshman album Dawn Defibrillation, and features slow, soothing sounds to help ease away worry during difficult times. With this track, DVWN hopes to instill a sense of hope in his listeners and offer solace. This song would be great to zone out to during a lazy afternoon or to cue up during a calming walk on a brisk fall day.
Hozier
“From Eden” is a song from Hozier’s EP of the same name, a song that depicts the warm tones of fall within its somewhat welcoming tune. The lyrics tell a story of longing and sadness that resonate with the bitterness of the cold as well. This song works well during a public outing to enjoy the scenery or even just a walk to grab a cup of coffee. This track will make you feel warm enough to brave the weather for some time outdoors.
“Shrike” comes from Hozier’s Nina Cried Power EP and compliments the fall season well due to its acoustic and deep-sounding beat. This song is great for a relaxing day inside with a good book or may serve well as calming background music during a late night study session.
“Cherry Wine” from Hozier’s self-titled studio album goes well with the colder months thanks to the song’s brooding nature, describing the inner workings of a toxic relationship. Hozier manages to deliver an impactful performance of this song through his powerful vocals and elegant acoustic work, which ironically seems to hide tragic lyrics behind a sweet tune often depicting the progression of relationships. While this song does sound very loving, the subject material can be very hard-hitting for listeners.
EAJ -jae of DAY6
“50 Proof” is by up and coming Korean solo artist Jae Park, who is a member of the Korean band Day6. With this song Jae manages to capture the heavy feelings of dealing with struggling relationships. Because of its weighted feel and sound, the track makes a great choice to listen to on a late night or if you want something soft playing in the background before a night of sleep.
EAJ’s second single “Truman” is a more upbeat and quick option from the newly formed artist, and if you’re looking for something to stream with a good beat that is also short and simple I would recommend picking “Truman” to add to your playlist.
“It Just Is” is a collaboration between EAJ, Seori, and Keshi. This track offers a pleasant sound that reflects the warm orange hues of fall leaves with hints of connections to people forming new relationships in the current season. This is yet another piece that listeners would be able to listen to on a day out around town to drown out the noise and enjoy some calming beats.
Lastly, with Halloween approaching, this track feels appropriate to include for the month of October. For anyone not looking to indulge in word heavy music tracks, Ghost Duet is a great funky song to stream to get into the halloween spirit or just zone out to the sound of whistling ghosts!
