Why YOU Should Join UIC Radio!

Are you considering joining the University of Illinois at Chicago's official college radio station (or haven't thought about it at all)? I joined UIC Radio as a blogger in the spring semester of 2022, and so far, I love it here! And you know what? You would, too! The list below is only a handful of the countless things you can do with your time at UIC Radio.

1) Friends & Community:

A lot of the people that I find myself gravitating towards are people that I have met while being a part of it. Everyone is really welcoming, especially new people, and it's so simple to make friends here! We have biweekly GBMs (General Board Meetings) that help a lot with making friends. All DJs, podcasters, and bloggers attend, and it's a great opportunity to find other people like you and to meet people you might not see outside of it. The E-Board and senior members recommend hanging around the studio while people are doing their shows (if the person is fine with it, of course). It's a great place to listen to music and hang out with people you might not have met yet.

2) Countless Events:

UIC Radio is a large social organization, and because of that, it participates in and hosts many social events around campus. The station is in charge of the annual events like the fall DJ battle, the Battle of the Bands in the spring, and volunteering with Spark (which is a super awesome thing to do if you're interested). You can see how things are set up with live performances, take part in event planning, and gain some experience in those fields—a great tool if that is something you see yourself doing in the future.

3) Self Expression:

Something that makes UIC Radio so exceptional is all the different people that are not only a part of it but are sharing themselves with the world through it (like me right now). Through music, deejaying, podcasting, and writing, UIC Radio gives everyone the freedom to show others who they are. I express myself through my writing as a blogger, so I make it a point to show the things I love when I can.

Overall, it is a really great club to be a part of! With all the benefits it offers and no cons, it's the perfect way to spend your time outside of class (yes, YOUR time). So, join UIC radio for all these reasons and, as you'll discover, many more.
