Eat a beignet?
Well folks, I’ve been in the amazy-crazy city of New Orleans for less than 12 hours and the adventures have already begun!
Now I suppose having a chronically disorganized family stumble into an unknown neighborhood at 1am doesn’t exactly encourage a vacation unfraught with mix-ups. But I have to say that despite my long and cozy acquaintance with my family’s (non)sense of direction, I was not expecting this!
Whether we were too tried to do more than drag our own suitcases off the sidewalk or Dad assumed that someone would take care of it as he fiddled with the electric gate, we will never know. But the possibility that we might have missed something didn’t occur until the next morning, when he uttered the fateful words:
“Uh…where’s my suitcase?”
Not exactly the introduction you’re hoping for when you step into your rental Impala and watch gracious bright-colored houses with their delicate railings and creeping ivy slide past narrow streets. I fell for New Orleans the second I breathed in that soggy-muggy night air.
So I’m going to be optimistic and hope that things will turn out for the best, that this has been simply one other inconvenient adventure and that we are going to love it here. How can we not? We’re a mile away from Cafe Du Monde, for goodness’ sake!
Now if only my baby sister would stop joking about being mugged…
But here’s a song to cheer everyone up (sorry I’m a day late, you know how airport wi-fi is!) and a great into to New Orleans and a style of music called Zydeco (more on that later!)
Enjoy!
