What Does Astrology Say About A Blood Moon?

Francesca Dukala

On March 14th, 2025, parts of North and South America could see the full moon turn red during the blood moon lunar eclipse. Its red tint may seem villainous or wicked, and it turns out there may be a deeper meaning to this. This week, I'll be laying out some astrological interpretations of a blood moon.

  1. Uncertainty

  1. Face the past and look forward to the future.

  1. Change or transformation

Of course, all of these things are highly subjective and depend on each individual's belief system and perception of the world around them. Change doesn't have to be something to fear, and much less do we need a blood moon to inspire change in our lives. I feel that the possible astrological meanings of a blood moon are foundational to elements of mindfulness that we can practice at any time.

A blood moon can help you address uncertainty in your life and encourage you to face turbulence. Accompanied by the fullness of the moon's phase, emotions can be heightened and lend themselves to more genuine introspection. This might also help you consider your past and/or future and how transformation may be coming to you soon.

These beliefs stem from faiths around the world. For example, biblical interpretations guide Christians to connect the blood moon with the wrath of God or the crucifixion of Jesus. At the same time, other religions like Hinduism or varying ancient beliefs attribute karma, transformation, life changes, or even omens of disaster to the blood moon.

I find that no matter what you believe, it's fascinating to learn about how other groups of people come to understand their existence and the events of their lives. It's worth wondering which came first: did a blood moon help people realize that their lives were undergoing transformation, or did variance and shifts in their lives leave them searching for a celestial cause?
