Hello everyone! Welcome back to this week's Earworm post! Last week, Chappell Roan finally released her new single "The Giver", after many months of teasing. Today I'm gonna give you my thoughts about the single and what it could mean for Chappell in the future.
Chappell has been really promoting this song in preparation for its release. She premiered it a few months ago on SNL, with no further elaboration on the song or when it might come out. A few weeks ago, billboards started popping up around the country with the lyric "She gets the job done!". l was really excited to hear the studio version of the song after hearing the SNL performance, and I'm happy to say it didn't disappoint. As someone who grew up around country music, this feels like a song I've heard before. Despite that, the lyrics are definitely way off from any other country song I've heard. I mean, it IS Chappell Roan. The only thing missing from the song is the bridge, which was included in the SNL version of the song, but is notably missing from the studio version. Chappell commented on this after fans were sad about its exclusion, and she said that she tried to incorporate it into the song, but it just wasn't working out. She did say, however, that she wanted to perform the bridge whenever she's performing the song live, and that she might even switch it up for each show. Overall, I think the song has a nice kick to it and it's not very often I find myself enjoying a country song.
Wrapping Up
Overall, I don't have a lot to say about this song because it's kind of what I expected from it. I'm wondering if she's gonna revisit country again, but it also kind of sounds like she just made this song for fun. Regardless, it's a banger and I'm just glad Chappell finally has some new music out.
