The Daily Blend’s September Top Ten 2018

sept blog pic

Hi friends! I’m alive! That is, I’ve come back from the worst city in Illinois and am currently in the best city in Illinois. It has been a very long summer, and I have oodles of new music for y’all. I wish I could say that this blog is solely based off of my music choices in September, but unfortunately, I’m not that creative and a good portion of this music is stuff I enjoyed over the summer as well. Also, a bunch of new albums just came out as this blog is being published, so while you all read this post, I’ll be listening to new albums to rave or rant about in about a month. 🙂

With everything that is played on my show, you all probably think I have way too much happening in the skull area of my body. So, I want to give everyone a little insight as to what’s going on in my brain, without having to look at the “Recently Played” section on my Spotify. The solution I came to was to tell everyone about the hidden (and not so hidden) gems in my music library for the month. Some of the music I post will be at the top of charts, some of the music won’t be your style, some will be a band’s biggest hit that I’ve just been happening to listen to a lot, and some will be completely unknown to you!

So, to start it off, here’s just a couple of my favorite artists for September, a little bit about them, and some song suggestions:

  1. Fall Out Boy (Alternative Rock)

HI I JUST SAW MY FAVES AGAIN AND I MISSED THEM VERY MUCH. But real tea here, I saw them live for the first time in almost three years at their first show ever at Wrigley Field on September 8th, and I might’ve cried a lil bit. They came out into the crowd halfway through the show and played a couple of songs like 30 feet away from me and it was amazing. Also, about a month ago, they released a surprise EP called “Lake Effect Kid,” with three songs that they wrote “as a love letter to our city,” which, as some of y’all may know, is our lovely city of Chicago. We love local bands, and Fall Out Boy is the best local Chicago band of them all.

Song suggestions: “Lake Effect Kid,” “Disloyal Order of Water Buffaloes,” “Bishops Knife Trick”

  1. Chase Atlantic (Alternative Hip-Hop)

Okay so I’ve been O B S E S S E D with these guys all summer. As you may remember, I wrote about them towards the end of last semester and how I was starting to get into them. Well, summer happened and now I absolutely adore them. I saw Chase Atlantic twice this summer: the first time was at the Milwaukee date of the last Vans Warped Tour, and the second time I was front row for their set at Lollapalooza this year. They are so incredibly talented and I definitely recommend them to everybody reading this blog. Go. Stop reading my terrible writing and go listen to them. 🙂

Song suggestions: “Triggered,” “Tidal Wave,” “Keep It Up”

  1. Ice Nine Kills (Metal)

I never used to like Ice Nine Kills. Honestly. Never really been a fan. BUT this summer one of my friends went to the Chicago Vans Warped Tour date with me and a couple other friends and she is a HUGE INK fan. Like, really huge. So I saw them live with her and that was enough to make me like them. They are so insanely talented live and can actually reproduce their music on stage. All of their songs tell stories and they have full concept albums that are so much deeper than people realize. They are truly creative and I absolutely love them for that.

Song suggestions: “Communion of the Cursed,” “Tess-Timony,” “The Nature of the Beast”

  1. Maroon 5 (Pop)

At the top of my concert bucket list for the longest time sat Maroon 5… UNTIL THIS MONTH. Since I grew up listening to them, I have been waiting about 10 years to see them live, and on September 14th, I finally got to see them live in concert at the United Center. Maroon 5 is so insanely talented, and although people may only know Adam Levine, the other 6 members of the band are just as amazing as Adam. If you ever get the chance to go to one of their shows, I would highly suggest it.

Song suggestions: “Feelings,” “Shoot Love,” “Goodnight Goodnight”

  1. YUNGBLUD (Alternative Rock)

I have so much love for this dude. YUNGBLUD jumped onto the scene about a year ago and absolutely BLEW UP. I’ve been listening to him for a minute and I absolutely love him. At 20 years old, he has built a full career for himself using raw talent. I wanted to see him SO bad at Vans Warped Tour this year, but he didn’t go to either of my dates. 🙁 HOWEVER, one of my old roommates and I are going to see him in October, so that’s really exciting, and I guess that makes up for me not seeing him at Warped.

Song suggestions: “Anarchist,” “Falling Skies (feat. Charlotte Lawrence),” “California”

  1. Chapel (Alternative Rock)

The fact that I actually found and am listening to this band I actually owe to celebrities. Seriously, a band I have been obsessed with for like a year now was on social media talking about how this band is phenomenal, so I gave them a listen. And I am SO glad I did! Chapel is a super talented Alt Rock duo that writes super catchy songs – much love for that! They only have a total of seven songs released, but I’m waiting for the number of songs to skyrocket over the next couple years, and I’m so excited for these guys to blow up in the music scene.

Song suggestions: “Cindy White,” “Don’t You Love Me,” “Fool’s Gold”

  1. Ruelle (Indie)

As I’m sure y’all know by now, I’m not into female singers. However, Ruelle is one of my new exceptions! I found her in the weirdest way: through TV shows! All summer, I’ve been watching a variety of shows on Netflix and a lot of her music was played on many different shows. I eventually looked her up and I absolutely LOVE her music. If you haven’t heard of her/haven’t listened to her music yet, you should definitely do that!!

Song suggestions: “Deep End,” “The Other Side,” “Madness”

  1. Ariana Grande (Pop)

Okay, I know what y’all are thinking. Yes, Ari is one of my exceptions because her voice sounds like an angel is singing. And yes, she’s insanely popular, but she’s on the list anyway. I feel like there’s nothing really to write on her that people don’t already know. So, I guess to recap, she just released an album. It’s amazing. Please go listen to it. THANKS!

Song suggestions: “God is a woman,” “The Way,” “Break Free”

  1. Bring Me The Horizon (Rock)

Is this the first time BMTH has been on my blog? Well I guess I should welcome them! As some of y’all may or may not have heard, BMTH is back in the music scene after not releasing music since 2015. Over 3 years later, they’re back with a new song called “MANTRA,” and it’s AMAZING! I seriously suggest it if you haven’t heard it yet, and if you haven’t ever listed to Bring Me The Horizon, please do that, they’re pretty good!

Song suggestions: “Avalanche,” “Shadow Moses,” “Doomed”

  1. Mac Miller (Rap)

I love Mac, but to be completely honest with you guys, he’s at the bottom of this list solely because I hadn’t listened to him in a while… until he died. I truly thought that, when I was reading the headline, it wasn’t real and Mac wasn’t dead – it was all just a cruel joke. And I wish it was a cruel joke. I’ve been blasting his new album since he died. May he rest in peace. 🙁

Song suggestions: “Thoughts from a Balcony,” “2009,” “Blue Slide Park”

Now we go on to the top tracks of September:

  1. “Super Fade,” – Fall Out Boy (Lake Effect Kid EP, 2018)

  2. “Reactive,” – Heuse, Chris Linton (Reactive – Single, 2018)

  8. “Caught Up,” – Chapel (Sunday Brunch, 2017)

  9. “breathin,” – Ariana Grande (Sweetener, 2018)

  10. “Promises,” – NERO (Welcome Reality, 2011)

Aaaaaaand finally, the killer albums of September:

  1. “Every Trick in the Book,” – Ice Nine Kills (2015)

  2. “Lake Effect Kid EP” – Fall Out Boy (2018)

  3. “V,” – Maroon 5 (2015)

  4. “Sunday Brunch,” – Chapel (2017)

  5. “That’s the Spirit,” – Bring Me The Horizon (2015)

  6. “21stCentury Liability,” – YUNGBLUD (2018)

  7. “Swimming,” – Mac Miller (2018)

  8. “Sweetener,” – Ariana Grande (2018)

  9. “Nostalgia EP,” – Chase Atlantic (2015)

  10. “Boom Boom Room (Side B),” – Palaye Royale (2018)

With all of that being said, if you have something you think is “Top Ten” quality, follow me on Instagram and/or Twitter and shoot me a message! I’d love to take requests, and if I love the artist/album/song enough, it just might make it on my list!
