LET’S GET SPOOKY! We love October – full of pumpkin flavored EVERYTHING and, in 2018’s case, tons of GREAT new music! Seriously y’all, I’m not even joking. This blog is almost all new music for either this month or this year, but mostly new music from this month. I think that’s why I had such a hard time writing this. Like as I’m typing, this blog is due in about 24 hours and I’m not done yet! Since I’ve been listening to all new music, it’s definitely a struggle to find some good music for you all. Granted, I have found some music and I think that it’s great.
With everything that is played on my show, you all probably think I have way too much happening in the skull area of my body. So, I want to give everyone a little insight as to what’s going on in my brain, without having to look at the “Recently Played” section on my Spotify. The solution I came to was to tell everyone about the hidden (and not so hidden) gems in my music library for the month. Some of the music I post will be at the top of charts, some of the music won’t be your style, some will be a band’s biggest hit that I’ve just been happening to listen to a lot, and some will be completely unknown to you!
So, to start it off, here’s just a couple of my favorite artists for October, a little bit about them, and some song suggestions:
Ice Nine Kills (Metal)
dfjasiodfhoasfoisadfoijsiofw I truly do not have words. I think I mentioned this when I put them in my last blog (speaking of which, did that even publish??), but I wasn’t even a huge fan of them until a couple months ago. But INK just released a new album on October 5th, called “The Silver Scream,” and I was honestly speechless after listening to it. I haven’t really listened to anything else all month. I honestly think that “The Silver Scream” is one of my, if not my absolute, favorite albums of 2018. It’s a concept album, and I won’t spoil it, but if y’all are interested, look it up on Wikipedia and read about this masterpiece. Like, if I could rank INK, their song “A Grave Mistake,” (see below, this is a true BOP), and their new album higher than number one, I would without hesitation.
Song suggestions: “Bloodbath & Beyond,” “The American Nightmare,” “Thank God It’s Friday”
Twenty One Pilots (Alternative)
As y’all may know, I’m not the biggest TOP fan, honestly. However, they just released a new album this month that is seriously making me change my mind. After a one-year silence on all social media, TOP came back with a bang back in June with two new songs and the announcement of a new album. I listened to the songs, and only one of them intrigued me, so I kind of forgot about the album. Until I saw it at the top of all the charts within hours. So, I listened to the album, and I fell in love. Truly a phenomenal album, and you may be seeing more Twenty One Pilots floating around this blog and my show.
Song suggestions: “Leave the City,” “Bandito,” “Goner”
YUNGBLUD (Alternative Rock)
Yes, I know. Why is YUNGBLUD on this blog again? Well, lovely humans, it’s because I just saw him in concert this month! I went with one of my roommates from last year, and we had an absolute blast. He had just broken his ankle, so the performance was interesting considering there was a wheelchair accompanying him, but I enjoyed the show regardless (even though the people in the crowd had terrible concert etiquette). I also got to meet him after the show and he is seriously so, so nice!
Song suggestions: “I Love You, Will You Marry Me,” “Psychotic Kids,” “Medication”
Arrested Youth (Alternative)
In addition to seeing YUNGBLUD this, I also got to see Arrested Youth! I actually had no idea who he was two weeks ago, but he opened for YUNGBLUD, so I found out about him that way. Usually I don’t like opening bands/artists, but Arrested Youth (real name Ian Johnson) was SO GOOD Y’ALL!! I also got to meet him and his band after the show and would just like to say that he is seriously so nice and genuine. I know most if not everyone reading this blog has no idea who he is, so please give him a chance and listen to him on Spotify/Apple Music/whatever your preferred listening platform is!
Song suggestions: “A Painting in Paris,” “Mirrors,” “Black x White”
AGNEZ MO (Pop)
Just recently, I found Miss Agnes over here. Performing under the name AGNEZ MO, Agnes Monica Muljoto is an Indonesian singer who just released her debut international album about a year ago. I found out who she was through a single that she released a couple months ago with Chris Brown and this month I decided, while being obsessed with her duet with Chris Brown, to listen to her first international album, which is her second album in English. Turns out, SHE IS SO GOOD! I doubt y’all have heard of her, so go do me a favor and listen to her music!
Song suggestions: “Million $ Lover,” “Sorry,” “Level Up!”
Beartooth (Hard Rock)
I can’t remember if Beartooth has ever been on this blog (I don’t think so??) but I’m putting them on here because they just released a new album this month called “Disease.” I didn’t really have the chance all month to listen to it, but at the tail end of the month (as I’m writing this lol) I finally got to listen to the album, and I need to tell you all how great this album is. I think, personally, a lot of their songs are very hit or miss for me, but I enjoy this album quite a bit. Go give it a listen if you haven’t yet!
Song suggestions: “Fire,” “The Lines,” “Enemy”
Chase Atlantic (Alternative Hip Hop)
Yeah, yeah, I know what you’re thinking – when is Chase Atlantic NOT going to be on this blog. My answer – probably never, but great question! I actually wasn’t going to put them on the blog this month at all but they released a brand new song about halfway through the month, and so of course my brain was like AHH GOOD SONG PUT THE WHOLE BAND ON THE BLOG. We love my brain. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯But regardless, this band is great as always, and I absolutely love this new song in particular. GO LISTEN TO IT!
Song suggestions: “Numb to the Feeling,” “Cassie,” “Dancer in the Dark”
The Glitch Mob (Electronic)
They’re baaaaack! I was really into these guys back in like March/April, but I kind of stopped listening to them over the summer. I recently found out that they released a new album in May and thought I would give it a listen. Update: it was so good! While they’re a little different than the other artists on this blog, I definitely suggest listening to this band/group, or at least just the new album if you don’t want to listen to some of their other music. Highly recommended!
Song suggestions: “Come Closer,” “Enter Formless (feat. Rituals of Mine),” “Disintegrate Slowly“
Fleetwood Mac (Folk Rock)
I truly can’t remember if I’ve put Fleetwood Mac on the blog before. For some reason, I have this feeling I have but I really can’t remember so YIKES. But since my brain doesn’t want to work and remember who’s been on the blog and who hasn’t, we’re going to pretend they haven’t been on here. SO, if y’all don’t know, Fleetwood Mac has been around for literally decades and they’re so amazing. While they’re pretty popular, they definitely are not as popular as they were in the 70s and 80s. If you have no idea who they are then please do me a favor and LEARN ABOUT SOME OLDER BUT GOOD MUSIC!
Song suggestions: “Rhiannon,” “Landslide,” “Dreams”
Ice Nine Kills (Metal)
yeah, they were so good that they’re on the list twice. oh well. shoutout to josh from josh’s roadcrew (every tuesday at 6, listen to his show pls) for telling me to put them on here twice (actually more than twice…) because they deserve it !!
Song suggestions: y’all saw the suggestions above
