The Daily Blend’s November Top Ten 2017

Hey all! Wow, has it been a busy month. I’ve been SO busy with homework, my job, this (my other, unofficial, job), and every possible other thing you could think of. BUT I have found time to get some new artists, songs, and albums into my music library. I’m going to be honest though, there definitely are a couple people that I listened to A TON in October that I continued to listen to in November. And that’s okay! We all have those artists that we always go back to no matter what.

With everything that is played on my show, you all probably think I have way too much happening in the skull area of my body. So, I want to give everyone a little insight as to what’s going on in my brain, without having to look at the “Recently Played” section on my Spotify. The solution I came to was to tell everyone about the hidden (and not so hidden) gems in my music library for the month. Some of the music I post will be at the top of charts, some of the music won’t be your style, some will be a band’s biggest hit that I’ve just been happening to listen to a lot, and some will be completely unknown to you!

So, to start it off, here’s just a couple of my favorite artists for November, a little bit about them, and some song suggestions:

  1. Lady Gaga (Pop)

I don’t care if you don’t like her music or image, but you have to admit, Lady Gaga is absolutely ICONIC. I’ve been a fan of hers for about a decade now and have loved every minute of it. I know I’m super late, but I just got around to listening to her “new” album (released over a year ago, whoops) and I have been OBSESSED. Seriously, I’ve been basically listening to only Gaga all month. I know a lot of people don’t listen to her anymore because she’s “outdated” or “doesn’t make good music anymore,” but please give her new music a chance!

  1. A Day To Remember (Rock)

Six words. I love A Day To Remember. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve always loved them; in fact, they’re actually one of my favorite bands. But lately, I’ve just been really into them. On my walk to classes in the morning, I’ll just shuffle all of their songs and jam out on my 15 minute walk (fun fact: their music is GREAT for working out). They make such a large variety of music; some of their songs are acoustic, some are fun to just sing along and dance to, and some are perfect for when you’re angry and just want something heavy to listen to. I FINALLY got to see them live over the summer and they actually just announced that they are coming to the UIC Pavilion in February, and I may have bought presale tickets… Whoops!

  1. Lindsey Stirling (Electronic/Classical)

Shoutout to my friend Abby for playing the violin for basically forever and loving Lindsey Stirling because I probably wouldn’t even know her name if it wasn’t for you. Think of the weirdest possible combination of music possible. Now let me tell you that Lindsey Stirling probably makes music with an even weirder combination: electronic/dubstep and classical violin. She is seriously SO, SO, SO, talented, actually making it to the quarterfinals on America’s Got Talent a couple years ago. Give her a listen!

  1. Halestorm (Hard Rock)

So, everyone’s probably going to think I’m crazy, but as long as I’ve loved rock music, I just recently started listening to Halestorm. I saw them live a little over a month ago and really only knew a song or two, but liked them enough to start listening to them regularly (because their live performances are absolutely INSANE). And let me tell you, I wish I would have been listening to them my whole life because WOW are they good. Lzzy Hale, the vocalist, has one of the best voices I’ve ever heard, and I don’t even really like female voices that much. She has so much raw talent, as well as everyone else in the band, and really deserve to be loved by everyone in the world. Give them a listen if you haven’t yet!

  1. Elliot Moss (Electronic/Indie/Singer-Songwriter)

Surprise! Elliot Moss is back. For those who read last month’s blog, you probably saw that he was #8 on my list. Well this month, he’s been promoted. I’m not sure if I’ve just been feeling super chill all month or what, but I’ve been listening to him SO much, it’s kind of crazy. Regardless, if you’re lame and still haven’t listened to his music, I’m giving you another chance.

Song suggestions: “Highspeeds,” “Plastic II,” “99”

  1. Greta Van Fleet (Classic Rock)

What a shock, Greta Van Fleet is still here (even if not at #1). Pretty positive at this point that they’re going to be somewhere on every single blog I post from here on out. I’ve accepted it. But really, I’m still just going to keep telling everyone to listen to them until the day I die. Put “LISTEN TO GRETA VAN FLEET” on my tombstone in 70 years, please and thanks.

Song suggestions: “Talk On The Street,” “A Change Is Gonna Come,” “Edge of Darkness”

  1. Dorothy (Rock)

So, my one of my roommates has, since I’ve been doing my show/blog, giving me SO MANY SUGGESTIONS (!!!!!) about what songs to listen to and play. She suggested the band Dorothy and I was slightly skeptical because, as I said above and have mentioned on my show before, I’m not the biggest fan of most female voices, but I absolutely LOVE Dorothy! Thanks Kristina for the suggestion!

  1. Palaye Royale (Alternative Rock)

Okay, I promise this is the last band on here that was the same as last month. But honestly, I can’t help the fact that I just LOVE Palaye Royale and want to listen to them all of the time!! I get that they’re not for everyone, so I’ll chill a little bit and not get mad if you haven’t listened to them yet, but I highly suggest them, once again!

Song suggestions: “Primary Propaganda,” “Rag Doll,” “How Do You Do?”

  1. ODESZA (Electronic)

I actually found these guys while working one of their concerts. I had never heard of them prior and I was scheduled to work their sold-out show when they came to Chicago a couple weeks ago. The concert itself was a nightmare because, well, a sold-out show for a popular band at an arena/event center, I think you can imagine how fun that was. BUT the music was really good! I looked them up on Spotify the next day (since I had to work the concert, it was slightly difficult to actually listen to the quality of the music) and continued to listen to them the rest of the day. If you’re like me and have never heard of ODESZA, do yourself a favor and go on Spotify/Apple Music/etc and give them a whirl!

10. The Word Alive (Metalcore)

Alright, so I’ve known about these guys for the longest time and never listened to them, despite all of my friends listening to them and telling me to. I finally got around to listening to them and I’m so happy that I did! They’re really good and make really good music for when you just want to jam out (great for working out also, just like ADTR!). They’re not TOO popular, so go give them a listen!
