The Boy Illinois has been firing warning shots all summer long, to get y’all ready for the drop of his latest EP DuSable. With tracks like “Sell Again“, “Piece Of Mind“, and “Back Down“, DuSable is sure to make for quite the introduction, to those who may not know of the Chicago based emcee/ lyricist. The EP holds 11 tracks, with majority of production done by Chicago producer D. Gainz. For featured artists, Illinois has Drey Skonie, Trae The Truth, and Twista come through and hold it down. DuSable is presented by Fake Shore Drive, and slated to drop August 10th. Copped a moment to chop it up with Illi, to share a bit on DuSable. It goes as follows…
B Roc – What do you hope fans get from DuSable? Boy Illinois – I hope they connect on every aspect, the grooviness, the message…you know? I tried to make it so relatable to the point where it’s like you could spoon feed a child, and they still get all of their nutrients… they should get everything they need from it. I’m excited about it, it’s real cool, simple, and bouncy. D. Gaines worked on a good half of the project with me. Fake Shore Drive presented the project and it should be great I’m feeling very confident about DuSable.
B Roc – Tell us a bit about the featured artists on your latest project. Boy Illinois – I look at these projects as my resume, and I really like for them to speak for me… show my work! I don’t care to have a lot of features… and when I do, I’m really selective. I have Drey Skonie as a feature on the track “Ruling Class 15”. His contributions were written by yours truly… I still wanted my work to come thru. And of course you know, Trae The Truth and Twista for “BlackMale”.
B Roc – What’s next for events or upcoming shows? Boy Illinois – I’m headlining We Are Hip Hop Festival coming up, August 1st. DuSable drops August 10th… then off to New York and later LA for press.
B Roc – Any ventures outside of music? Boy Illinois – I’m currently the Brand Ambassador of a London menswear clothing line, Dent De Man. They take old African 70’s and 80’s textiles and prints, and turn them into mens suits and menswear. They looked out for me for wardrobe for one of my videos I did, and I really dig their work. Their brand really fits in to who I am, and they see where we are going with our vision. I also have a sponsorship with an alkaline water company in the works. I’m a healthy person… I have my vices that I partake in here and there, but overall I believe in promoting a healthy lifestyle.
