I really enjoy bands that make you want their album after you’ve seen them live
It was Friday night and I had absolutely nothing to do. Word on the street was that the Soil & the Sun, a band I had the pleasure of experiencing in one of downtown Champaign’s most intimate venues, Cowboy Monkey, was playing a show at SubT which coincidentally is one of Chicago’s most intimate venues. And so, without hesitation, I bought a ticket. During the online purchasing process, I flashed back to memories of the 7-piece’s raw and encompassing and layered Experiential Spiritual Folk-Rock//New Mexican Space music. I would have the same flashbacks while listening to Brice Woodall’s gauzy, electronic opening performance and the Soil & the Sun would eventually make my flashbacks reality with another stellar performance to cap the night.
So then, why is there a picture of Brontosaurus above instead of one of maybe, I don’t know…the Soil & the Sun???
Because HOLY CRAP! That’s why. I knew I was in for something when the drummer tuned a guitar and strapped it to his back while the keyboardist sound checked his snare drum; a guitar strapped to his back as well. Brontosaurus stole the show with one of the best live and most unique performances I had ever witnessed in my short 23 years of life. I had no clue what I was in for and neither will you until you check em out–>CLICK IT!
Without a doubt, the best $10 I’ve spent in a while.
