Valentine's Day may seem like a holiday for only those with partners and significant others, but not having a Valentine does not mean you should miss out! Not having a Valentine is the perfect excuse to shower yourself with love since self-love is just as important. Here are some self-love tips to make the day just as special:
1) Treat yourself like a date!
Who needs a date when you can treat yourself like one? Allow yourself to dress up just for yourself, even if you are staying in for the day. Put on an outfit you have not worn yet (it could be fancy) or put on a casual outfit you love. Once you have picked out an outfit, get yourself some food. Cook a favorite dinner or even take yourself to a new restaurant or comfort place. Treat yourself to a good meal; you have earned it. In the end, you could even light some candles, buy some flowers, and get a sweet treat. It's a sweet way to end the day!
2) Take care of your physical well-being
If you want a more relaxing way to spend your Valentine's Day, treat yourself to some physical self-care. Take a bath with some aroma therapy, essential oils, or bath bombs. Not a bath person? Then, take an “everything shower” just to make yourself feel all nice and clean. Do a skincare routine or pamper yourself with a face mask and lotions. You could even go as far as going to get a massage or get your nails done! Treat yourself like a million bucks!
3) Do something you love
There are many things you can do; you just have to find what makes you happy. Make some popcorn and watch your favorite movie or snuggle up with some blankets and start a new book (bonus points if it's a romance novel). You could also play some video games, paint, or do something creative if you are more on the artsy/creative side. One can always go out into nature and go on a walk if the weather is nice.
4) Disconnect and/or reconnect
Depending on the kind of person you are, you could take a break from social media and its expectations and stimulants to take care of your mental health as well. If social media makes you feel down, then give it a rest for the time being. If you are more social or feeling extra gracious, call a friend or family member and share love in different ways, like platonically! Different forms of love exist besides romantic, so practice gratitude for the love already in your life.
5) Buy yourself something nice
Invest in something new that makes you happy. It could be flowers or chocolate or could be a new hobby item or a cozy blanket. Go on an Amazon or online retail shopping spree. Whatever makes you happy at the moment, even in the long term, is beneficial to your self-love. Many amounts of happiness, even short-term, are valuable to you. For future surprises, subscribe to self-care, books, or other subscription packages!
In the end, remember, love starts from within. Harboring self-love is arguably the most important form of love so that you can value yourself before you spread your love to others. So, how do you plan to celebrate yourself on the day of love?
