Rex Orange County's "Finally" Tour : On the Grid

Alexander O'Connor, better known as Rex Orange County, has recently kicked off his FINALLY: A Theater Tour, a multiple-night tour in various cities across North America. The tour is to support his recently released album, The Alexander Technique, which dropped on September 6th of this year, after being a huge fan of Rex ever since his first album, Bcos U Will Never B Free, in 2015. You might know him from his collaborations with Tyler the Creator on his album Flower Boy. I was so excited to finally be able to see one of my favorite artists in person; in such an intimate venue, this tour is nothing to miss. Rex talks about his tour in the official press release, describing, "These particular venues have allowed me to create a show with a theatrical stage set to further narrate the themes of the album alongside the music. I love playing live, and I can’t wait to bring this new album to life across so many beautiful rooms and iconic stages." This new album features raw vocals and an extremely sentimental feel, giving listeners a glimpse of what Rex's mind looks like and how he's been dealing with various issues recently.

The stage opens with a recreation of his music videos for "Alexander," a song where he reminisces about a past visit with a doctor; it seems simple, and then the curtains open up to reveal a beautiful set that recreates a traditional Japanese house. His entire band is on stage, and the lighting is ethereal, giving guests a really amazing experience.

The setlist includes various tracks from his different albums, with a surprise cover song from an artist of his choice, then a random song from his old albums, at Chicago Night 1 of 3, he decided to play "Happiness," the ending track for his second album Apricot Princess. The surprise element gives listeners an exciting moment of figuring out whether he'll play an oldie that might be one of their favorites or discover a new song that they'll remember for years to come. I won't spoil the setlist, but just know you'll be dancing and singing along to your favorite hits from Rex.

If you have a chance to see the tour, definitely go! Even if you're not a huge fan, you will have an amazing time. Below is the official tour poster. Check out if he'll be coming to a city near you!
