The Architects are a band I only recently started listening to when they released the single "Whiplash," but ever since then, I've been hooked on them. So, for this blog, I decided to review every song on the album to collect my overall thoughts on the album and how it compares to other artists I listen to.

So, starting with the first song, "Elegy" is a really good introduction to the album as it has a slower build-up to an explosive ending that really gets you hyped up for the album itself. This is especially true when you realize the next song is "Whiplash."

"Whiplash" has to be one of my favorite metalcore songs of all time. From its bombastic sound to its extremely relevant lyrics about today's world. It is perfect for capturing your attention. From "Can we ready ourselves for the outrage? "to "Is the world done F***ing around, we bow to the crown" these lyrics really hit home for me in America when people think they are bulletproof from what the government is going to do them, but little do they know they are next when the government wants to destroy someone else's life. Moving on to "Blackhole," another amazing metalcore song that I have on repeat because it also features some absolute fire lyrics like "Midnight, we cut the power lines, No light but the fire in my eyes." These lyrics actually gave me chills, that's how much it hits home with me. The lines "Is today so hollow, if there were no tomorrow" also give me dreadful feelings about the future of our world. "Everything Ends," as the title suggests, is the land, the sky, and all between. Ending and trying to look for a way out, it's a metaphor for feeling like you're trapped and there isn't a way out, but it doesn't matter because everything ends anyway, which is rather grim, but it is how he feels. "Brain Dead" is the only song to feature artists on it, being House of Protection, and this is another one of my favorites of the album. The lyrics once again hit the nail on the head as I think this entire album is about a central theme of either the apocalypse or what our corrupt society is and is becoming. I don't want to just reference the lyrics on every song on the album, but this is also one of the best for the same reason as I've mentioned with the earlier songs. "Evil Eyes" speaks for itself with the lyrics "Just business, you devil, you hypocrite." This sounds exactly like he's referring to somebody quite similar to Donald Trump. The Architects are a UK metal band similar to Bring Me The Horizon, who both call out corrupt politicians, policies, and politics, which is probably why I love them so much. Going into the next song "Landmines" talks about living a life skipping over landmines basically meaning that you are barely making it alive through each day as it becomes harder and harder to live each day whether that be because of hardship in your personal life or everyone's being harder because the government is actively making it harder to survive paycheck to paycheck due the their terrible policies. "Judgement Day" is yet another song with the same title as the Five Finger Death Punch song and the I Prevail song, which both have completely different lyrics for different reasons, but are all really good. This song is more about actually arriving at the judgment day for being alive and going to heaven or hell. This is all about being afraid of the end and is once scary and gloomy to think about, but it's why it makes it such an interesting song.

After all the loud and bombastic songs, it's nice to have a bit of a slower song with "Broken Mirror," but don't get me wrong, it's still very much heavy, especially towards the end of the song. This is one of those songs that really gets me thinking about my thoughts and emotions when i listen to it and it's got a nice groove to it. Immediately, we go back to certified metalcore bangers with "Curse," and the refrain of this song really gets me, and I don't even know why. It's mainly the lyric that says, "In the times I've had enough I still wish for the worst" and this makes me think about how there are many times in our lives where we aren't doing ok and yet we still don't even want what's best for us because we feel like we don't deserve it. This is exactly why it's called "Curse." It's like our lives came with a curse on us. "Seeing Red" is exactly how it sounds, and this song is about all the so-called "fans" who say that Architects aren't heavy enough or are not as heavy as they used to be. This is, of course, extremely ironic because this is one of their heaviest songs to date. Only this band could make a song mocking people all while at the same time giving them exactly what they want and making an incredible song out of it. We finally arrive at the last song of the album, "Chandelier." This song is what is commonly described as a ballad, which many metal bands have at the end of their albums to have a climactic sound to them and wrap up any final emotions conveyed through the album. Overall, I really enjoyed this album, and it is currently my favorite by this band, and I'm really excited for their future music.
