One of my favorite hobbies is going to shows and concerts (unfortunately, it happens to be one of the most expensive). I’ve been to about 21; out of all these shows, my top 3 have to be The Marias, Kaytranada, and Tyler the Creator (Igor tour). Don’t get me wrong, I’ve loved all the shows I’ve gone to, and for the most part, all have been good experiences, but these shows have a special place in my heart.
ratings are in no particular order
Tyler the Creator: 8/10
The first time I got to see Tyler live was at his Igore tour, which arguably was my favorite between this one and the CMIYGL show. Everything about this show was great: the seats, the setlist, and the vibes. It was 2019, which speaks for itself, I would say. It was such a cool experience being able to see Tyler perform songs from his past albums, Goblin, Wolf, and Flowerboy. It would’ve been great to hear songs off Cherrybomb, but he redeemed himself at the CMIYGL show when he played “SMUCKERS.” The show’s highlight for me had to be him ending the show off with “ARE WE STILL FRIENDS?”. It was such a perfect way to end the show, making it that much more memorable. I admit that I got a little emotional during that part. So if you get the chance to see Tyler the Creator live, I definitely recommend you do.

The Marias: 9/10
The rating for this show may be a little biased because The Marias are one of my favorite artists, but trust me, all aspects of that experience embodied who The Marias are for sure. This was my second time at the Salt Shed, yet it was my first show at their outside venue. Let me set the scene for you guys. It was a late August evening with perfect weather, and from where the venue is, you have a good view of the city skyline in the distance while also having the lake right nearby. By the time The Marias came out, the sun was setting, and it was a really beautiful experience. The show itself was amazing; my sister and I were dancing pretty much the whole time. Although we didn’t have the best view, it was nice to have space around us, not being crowded by a bunch of people. Their setlist mainly consisted of songs from their recent release, “Submarine.” They did include songs from “Cinema” and their debut projects, even “Otro Atardecer” by Bad Bunny, featuring them. As the night went on, the moon became really vibrant and visible, so when the band performed “Over the Moon”, it was the most perfect setting for this song. And if you’re wondering, yes, Maria sounds exactly the same performing live. It was such a dreamy, beautiful show; I think everyone should experience something like that.

Kaytranada: 9/10
Last but not least, Kaytranada! As many of you may know, picking a favorite concert is really hard, but this may take the spot as my top. For this show, it was my first time going to Hunting Bank Pavilion. I thought it was fitting for Kaytranda’s show to be outside, especially since it was still really warm out this past September. Sam Gellaitry & Channel Tres were the openers for the show, and in my opinion, they did a great job keeping the crowd’s energy up. Channel Tres’ set was captivating, with a really put-together choreography and all kinds of visuals. My favorite song that he performed was “I’ve Been in Love” by Jungle, where he is featured. kaytranada’s set itself was just what I needed. Everyone around us was dancing, singing, and enjoying themselves. It was a very freeing experience.
