Persuading you to watch "Strange Days"

I found "Strange Days", how all the best movies are found, from a GIF on Twitter of a young Ralph Fiennes looking exceptionally attractive. However, the deal was sealed upon realizing he starred alongside Angela Bassett.

Directed by Oscar Award winner Kathryn Bigelow, “Strange Days” takes place in an alternate cyberpunk version of LA, which has fallen into a police state days prior to New Year's Eve 2000. The film follows Lenny Nero (Ralph Fiennes), who is involved with the illegal trade of virtual reality recordings that allow the user to experience the memories and emotions of others. The film opens demonstrating this technology with an attention-grabbing scene of a bank robbery shot in first person.

The main conflict is revealed when Lenny receives a tape of a murder. The VR memories bring a unique horror as whoever views the tape feels what both the murderer and the victim felt during the memory.

At the crux of the film is the still-relevant politics of the corrupt police state that culminates in a dramatic chase through a gorgeously chaotic New Year's celebration.

There are three types of people in the world of "Strange Days": cops, punks, and businessmen. A joke that my friends and I made at the start, but became progressively more true as the movie went on, with the main characters being the only few to fall in between. A slightly weird aspect of the film is that all of the men in this movie rock questionably well-groomed long locks that make them a bit difficult to tell apart.

As if it wasn’t already the best movie ever, the film features a club scene in which one of the characters covers PJ Harvey’s “Rid of Me” and “Hardly Wait”.
