Welcome back to NOTEWRTHY, here to remind you that squirrels don't take fall damage.
But beyond that, we're here to talk about some songs that go with the weather we're currently getting, especially given that summer break is just around the corner. That's right, let talk about some summer-y songs.
Let's be honest, if you don't have a playlist of songs for summer, or at the very least a song or two you know makes you think of this time of year, you're crazy. But don't worry, I'm here to help you out. Here's some of my summer favorites.
Coming up first, we have "Sour Patch Kids" by Bryce Vine. For me, when I think of this song, I immediately get flashbacks to May/June of 2020. School was winding down in a weird space because of the start of the COVID pandemic, but the relief that came with the warm weather was accompanied by this song. In my opinion, the song encapsulates summer perfectly, given that it's about wanting to just sit back and take things easy. I don't care who you are, that's a widely understood feeling if there ever was one. Everyone deserves to take a moment to live free, and this song is a great reminder to take the summertime to do so.
Next up, we've got "STAY" by the KID LAROI and Justin Bieber. Regardless of what you think about either of those guys, you can't deny the effect that this song had. This song was everywhere in the summer of 2021, and for me, reminds me of being on vacation, going skating with my brother and having dinner with my family. The song always reminds me of warm July air, and it sticks with me still. Despite the song's lyrics being kind of depressing, the song's high-energy tone overrides that for me. A song made about the desperation of love turns into a song I found myself unabashedly dancing to in public. It's a weird phenomenon, but an enjoyable one nonetheless.
Of course, I'd be remiss if I failed to mention "sun kissed" by The 4411. If you follow me on TikTok, you'll know I talked about these guys about a year ago by this point when the song came out, but the song really does make me think of summer. The instruments on this track come together in a way that really invokes a summer feeling from you. Light-hearted, happy and fun is the best way to describe this song, which makes it perfect to put in any summer playlist. This band also has a lot of other good songs too, so definitely check them out.
Before we talk about the last song, let's have some honorable mentions that I like, but don't listen to as much as the others:
"CAN'T STOP THE FEELING!" by Justin Timberlake
"Happy" by Pharrell Williams
"Adventure of a Lifetime" by Coldplay
"JUGGERNAUT (feat. Lil Uzi Vert & Pharrell WIlliams)" by Tyler, the Creator
Finally, my last song I want to mention is "Die Hard" by Kendrick Lamar. This song came out 2 weeks into my summer break of 2022, and I latched onto this track. The amount of time I listened to the song while blasting it out of my speakers and driving is uncountable. Again, may not be the most positive song ever, but it reminds me so vividly of singing this song while driving to work or driving around with my friends, that it's hard not to relate it to last summer.
Anyway, that's all for this week. I will see you guys next Saturday with an interview ;)
