Nostalgic 2000s Movies Soundtrack Pt1.

I’ve talked about a few films throughout lachurrosstories but how can I forget about the classic teenage 2000s movies? plus the songs they use?? Well not anymore… here are a few movies that I think are to be quite memorable mainly because of the song put in the background.

Most of the examples are from their opening scene... it's quite a pattern that I actually enjoy. Others are just scenes that I think resonate the most within the film. Seeing the credits, snippets of the movie, and all while a song is playing? Yay, count me in to watch.

  1. Movie: Legally Blonde (2001)

    Song: "Perfect Day" by Hoku

This is the opening scene of the movie. You start to see the credits, all the actor names, and the title in pink highlights. Then it starts to show what one can assume is a college campus because of the fraternities and sororities. We take a closer look at would look like the main character, Elle Woods (Reese Witherspoon) getting ready for the day and everything surrounding her "house and sisters".

As the songs "Perfect Day" plays in the background and now knowing what the movie is about, Elle just wanted a perfect day and a perfect plan to her going in to law school and becoming a lawyer. While there is more to the story such as how Elle wants to get her ex-boyfriend back and attend Harvard and do as much as possible for him, she still is seen is a "blonde". Taking this perspective, she does a 360 and turns her life around for the better, but mainly for herself.

  1. Movie: The Devil Wears Prada (2006)

Song: "Suddenly I See" by KT Tunstall

This is also an opening scene. With this movie we know that it has to do with fashion and the magazine world, meaning we see these multiple girls getting ready. One being the main character, Andrea (Anne Hathaway). The key thing about this scene is we notice how Andrea is so different from the rest, who one can assume are models for that said magazine. Andrea picks out her undergarments with not any care, doesn't do her make up, drinks her coffee, and leaves the house on a mission for a bagel and traveling to work on the subway. As for the other girls they take their time getting ready and looking good, all while calling up a taxi and also heading to work.

I think the song fits well as an introduction to the movie because we see exactly who Andrea is, wants to be, and ends up being. She has these big ambitions and dreams, but who is really standing in her way? Her boyfriend Nate (Adrian Grenier) or her 'diabolical editor' Miranda (Meryl Streep).

  1. Movie: 13 Going on 30 (2004)

    Song: "Vienna" by Billy Joel

This scene is more towards the end of movie, the moment where you know the main character isn't doing too well anymore. Jenna, (Jennifer Garner), has come back to her childhood home after realizing almost half her life has been gone due to the wish she made at 13 years old. More on this, the summary of the movie is basically as the title, one minute you're a teenager and then the next you're an adult and you have no idea why, how things came to be, and what else have you been missing.

The song "Vienna" is sort of sentimental in this scene because it talks about how it's okay to take your time in life and that you don't have to move on so fast. "Slow down, you crazy child" is one of the lyrics, and imagine knowing at that age that it's okay to not want to be an adult right away. It's okay to want help, to need your guardians, and everything else in life is something to appreciate, so for a moment, look around, and it will work out just fine.

  1. Movie: The Breakfast Club (1985)

Song: "Don't Forget About Me" by SimpleMinds

With this particular choice, it's the end credit scene. The Breakfast Club is a group of five highschool students who were put together for Saturday detention. You have the classic group of a rebel, popular princess, outcast, brainy nerd, and jock. Through their hours-long session, they get to know one another. They are so different and judge one another, so they start to explain their stories. In the end, when they are finally released, they start to wonder if their way of thinking will be the same. Will they look at other students the same way or any differently?

The song "Don't Forget About Me" fits well for this part because I don't think they would want to be forgotten. Everything that they just talked about and "lived through," how can that be forgotten.

  1. Movie: LOL (2012)

Song: "Somewhere Only We Know" by Keane

How can I leave a scene where romance is involved? I couldn't. The movie LOL is a classic when it comes to heartbreaks, best friend troop love, overprotective parents, and friendships. In this scene, the main character, Lola (Miley Cyrus) starts to reminisce about her moments with her boy best friend, Kyle (Douglas Booth).

With the song, I can tell that she wanted and was thinking about going back to the moments, "the places," only they would know about. It's a cute montage moment. Towards the end, she confess that she cannot be in love with him but what if she is... would that ruin their friendship? When I hear this song I think about this very moment. Fun Fact: the movie takes place in Chicago, IL.

  1. Movie: 10 Things I Hate About You (1999)

Song: "Bad Reputation" by Joan Jett & the Blackhearts

Another opening scene, yay! Kat (Julia Stiles) isn't your classy, popular girl; though she is beautiful, smart, and most of a rebel, she views school functions and relationships to be a drag. All of that changes thoughout the movie when she gets approached by Patrick (Heath Ledger). The side characters like her sister Bianca and romance friends Cameron, Joey, also represent other groups of highschool.

When the song "Bad Reputation" starts to play, you can just see Kat stroll in the car, and you know this is the girl no one would like to mess with. You see the fierce and even the "don't care about anything" look. When I hear this song, I like that I can relate it to Kat and the type of person she is in this movie. (Don't forget about the 10 Things I Hate about You poem!)

  1. Movie: She's All That (1999)

Song: "Kiss Me" by Sixpence None The Richer

The shocking moment about this... I still have not seen this movie fully...!

From what I have seen and when hearing this amazing (as I like to think of it, autumn song), a lot of other people resonate and think of this scene/movie. And more so over the fact that it was actually made for this reason. We even see in the music video, we even see both main characters, the couple, Laney (Rachel Leigh Cook) and Zack (Freddie Prinze Jr.).

From what I also know about this movie and scene is how Zack looks at Laney, how she transformed and all he would like to do is just kiss her...isn't that what we're thinking as the songs plays too? Fun Fact: There's also a remake on this, "He's All That."

this is just part one...watch out for part 2
