My unwatched "must-watches"

Recently, I’ve been very into movies. The app Letterboxd has a lot to do with this, but lately, I cannot stop watching them. I’ve seen hundreds of films, and still, it seems that the number of movies on my watchlist will never go down. There are hundreds of thousands of films out there, and while it is probably impossible to watch them all, there is a list of popular movies that most people would call “must-watch” films. That being said, here are some “must-watch” movies that I have never seen:

The Shining - If I’m being completely honest, I had zero idea what this movie was about until recently. I had always heard of it but never heard of it. I am not much of a horror fan, which may be why I’ve put off watching it for so long, but now that I know more about the plot, I am very intrigued.

The Breakfast Club - I am ashamed to say that I only know the general plot of this movie because of Pitch Perfect and that one episode of Victorious. Either way, this movie has been on my watchlist for years, and I’m not quite sure why I haven’t watched it yet.

Dead Poets Society - This is another movie that I actually don’t know the plot of. All I know is that this movie is guaranteed to make you cry. Every review I’ve seen has expressed how heartbreaking, and how incredible this movie is, which makes me both excited and anxious to watch it. Growing up, I was always a massive fan of Robin Williams, so I am very excited to watch it.

Ferris Bueller’s Day Off - I’m not sure if this movie is considered a “must-watch,” but my friends were not very happy with me once they found out that I hadn’t seen it. Apparently living in Chicago and not seeing every movie that takes place in Chicago is a crime. Either way, I have added it to my watchlist and plan on watching it eventually.

Fight Club - Out of the movies I listed so far, this is the one that people seem to get the most angry about. I am not quite sure why this movie is as famous as it is, but I can confidently say that I do not want to watch it, and I don’t plan on it. Partly out of spite and partly because I got the ending spoiled for me, so it wouldn’t be worth it anyway.

Interstellar - This movie has been on my watchlist since it was released, and I honestly have no excuse for not watching it yet. I have yet to hear a single bad thing about this film. Not only is the cast absolutely stacked, but it is directed by Christopher Nolan and composed by Hans Zimmer. It is an absolute “must-watch.”

My Girl -  Again, I'm not sure if this is considered a “must-watch” film, but I know that this is one that many people have seen. Much like Fight Club, the ending was spoiled for me, but I believe this movie is worth watching, which is why it remains on my watchlist. I am not looking forward to the heartbreak.

Forrest Gump - On top of knowing tons of quotes from this film, I have visited both the house and the infamous bench from this movie and still have never seen it. Not the whole thing, at least. I tried to watch it once, but I fell asleep not even halfway through, and I had no desire to try and watch it again. Similarly to Fight Club, I don’t want to watch it, but because Forrest Gump is arguably the most famous movie ever, I feel obligated. I suppose I will consider watching it in the future.
