My Top 5 Olivia Rodrigo Unreleased Tracks

This blog is the fifth installment of UIC Radio’s Women History Month series profiling and celebrating the musical and artistic work of women throughout the month of March. To read the previous entry in this series, click here!

Even though it wasn’t until late 2019 that she slowly rose to fame because of her series – High School Musical: The Musical: The Series – Miss Olivia Rodrigo has finally become a name everyone knows. If you know me personally, you know I’ve been WAITING for this one. I remember following her on Instagram when she shared a song she wrote and composed for the first time on social media. It was a piano ballad called “Naive Girl” and it was truly something I hadn’t expected from a girl her age – although, I definitely wasn’t complaining. Since then, Liv has shared plenty of her own tracks with us by posting them on Instagram. Her first big break came from a track called “All I Want” which she had the opportunity to write for her character on the Disney+ series. The track became a trend on TikTok, debuted on the U.S Billboard Top 100, and since then has been certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America.

In July of 2020, Rodrigo gave us a snippet of a song she wrote about getting her driver’s license. After some minor lyric changes (iykyk) and time in the studio, she released it as her debut single “drivers license” at the start of 2021. Since its release, the single has logged its seventh week at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 – a record previously held by Drake’s “God’s Plan.” BUT! That’s not the only record she’s broken. Youngest solo artist to have a No. 1 song debut in history? YUP! Biggest weekly streaming debut for any song in U.S. Spotify chart history? YUP! Fastest song to surpass 100 million streams in Spotify history? MHMM! Longest running No. 1 hit on the Billboard Global 200? AS IT SHOULD!

I could honestly go on and on about how many records (and hearts) this girl has broken in such little time but that’s not what I’m here for today. Today I’m listing my top 5 Olivia Rodrigo unreleased tracks. There’s something extremely special about raw and genuine recordings like this, which is part of the reason why I hold all of them close to my heart. It was very hard narrowing the list to 5 but I hope you all enjoy them as much as I do.
