The internet has been in a frenzy since CHROMAKOPIA by Tyler, the Creator dropped, and with good reason. On every platform that you could think of, critiques and fans alike were already dropping their thoughts on the album. Some of my friends who are Tyler fans kept telling me to listen to the album, so as soon as I had the time, I sat down and listened to the entire thing. Although Tyler hadn't dropped an album since 2019, he proves time and time again that he is a figure in the music industry to not be messed with.
All 14 of the songs on the album are all hits, but there were a few that stood out to me personally. Starting the album off strong, the first song, "St. Chroma (feat. Daniel Cesar)," is such a good intro to the album and definitely is one of the most memorable songs on the album for me. From the intro "Don't you ever dim your light for anyone" to the harmonizing and stomping, it definitely sets the tone for the rest of the album that gets you hooked and wanting more. The second song titled "Rah Tah Tah" was another that stood out to me. The way Tyler sang/rapped the lyrics scratched my brain just right. This song could pretty much get anyone hyped up.
The fourth song, "Darling, I(feat. Teezo Touchdown)" is another one of my favorites off the album. This song is different compared to the other two I previously mentioned. This song is slow paced and something you can put on while you do your homework. Not only is the melody different, but so are the lyrics. Tyler talks about the way he feels towards love, commitment and how he's been navigating that aspect of his life. I also noticed that Tyler included background clicks that come up on Snoop Dogg's song "Drop it like it's hot," which I found cool and feel like it really adds to the overall vibe of the song.
Finally, the twelfth song off this album titled, "Like Him (feat. Lola Young)" is also another slow paced song. We've heard Tyler get vulnerable in his previous tracks. He has a natural talent for storytelling, and can always combine the most gut-wrenching melodies with just as equally gut-wrenching lyrics. Listening to this song, I could feel the raw emotion he put into this when he talks about the way he feels towards his father. From my understanding, Tyler never knew his dad and thought he just walked out on him. However, it's revealed in his latest album his mother was the one that kept him from seeing him.
Overall, if anyone's looking to expand their music taste and listen to new music, I would recommend listening to CHROMAKOPIA by Tyler, the Creator. The songs I listed were just the tip of the iceberg of this amazing album, and if you choose to listen to it, you will not be disappointed.
