March Earworms (3/14/25)

Writer: Joey Gilbertson Joey Gilbertson

Hello! I wanted to keep this week's post kind of short and easy, so I figured I'd just talk about some of my favorite songs that I've been listening to! Maybe you can find a new favorite song from this list. This includes new and older releases.

MAYHEM by Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga is finally back and putting out all the stops in her new album 'MAYHEM'. After hearing the lead single "Disease", I was really curious to see where this album was gonna go. But after "Abracadabra" was surprise-dropped during the 2025 Grammy's, I was somehow even more excited. Safe to say the album did not disappoint. I love the gritty production and the 80s disco inspiration. I can't wait to give my full thoughts on this album, but that's gonna have to wait until next week while I continue to collect my thoughts.

safeword by Halsey

Despite releasing an album just a few months ago, Halsey suddenly released her new single, "safeword." It's not clear whether this is a one-off song, a tease for a deluxe of "The Great Impersonator", or a whole new project entirely. Regardless, it joins the likes of "Ego" and "Alice of the Upper Class" as upbeat rock hits. While the song is pretty simple, it's catchy and fun to sing to, which is how it ended up getting added to my playlist. I really hope that Halsey continues to explore this genre because I think she's on the cusp of doing something really amazing with it. The rock songs from her last album and this song are excellent proof of that.

In the last few months, I've been on a big beabadoobee kick. I just find her music really satisfying and easy to listen to. "10:36" is one of my favorite songs of hers because it's just a fun pop-rock moment, which I can always get down with. I'm hoping beabadoobee returns soon with some more rock-inspired music, but until then, songs like this are gonna help me get through the wait.

Short n' Sweet (Deluxe) by Sabrina Carpenter

A couple weeks ago, we finally got the long-awaited deluxe edition of Sabrina's "Short n' Sweet". The standard version of the album was already so fun and completely took over my Spotify queue last August. This deluxe edition is pretty solid and is just a small continuation of more from the standard edition, which is absolutely welcome. I love "15 Minutes" and "Busy Woman" the most, and thought the "Please Please Please" collaboration with Dolly Parton was a cute addition, but as someone who didn't grow up listening to Dolly, I probably won't listen to it a whole lot.

Did you know that there's a tunnel under Ocean Blvd by Lana Del Rey

Returning to this album every few months is kind of a right of passage for me. There's always a song I remember out of nowhere and become obsessed all over again. Usually, it's the title track or "A&W." The title track, in particular, is one of my favorites because of the slow buildup, and I find the lyrics pretty relatable. Not to mention the part where she sings "don't forget me" near the end is like a drug.

Sorry If I Hurt You by Charli xcx

I think this song is very overlooked and underrated, even among her core fanbase. I love the flow of the production. If I'm being real, the production is kind of carrying the song. The lyrics aren't anything groundbreaking, even if they are pretty relatable to most people. But what's wrong with having a simple pop-banger? Whatever happened to fun??

The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess by Chappell Roan

It's been a little over a year since I've heard this album for the first time. Even to this day, I'm still obsessed. This album hits so much harder in the warmer months, and because of the recent warm weather in Chicago, I've been spinning it a lot more. I'm in love with everything Chappell does, just like most. I'm so excited to see what she does in the future, especially with the upcoming release of her new release of "The Giver". Live laugh love Chappell Roan!!

Wrapping Up

Thanks for reading this week's Earworm post! Like I said, I wanted to keep this one nice and short because I've been pretty busy. Anyways, I hope you enjoyed reading and are looking forward to my next post, which is going to be a review of "MAYHEM" by Lady Gaga. See you next time!
