Ah, Valentine’s Day. The one day a year a person decides they will finally show their partner how special they are. The one day a year people spend absurd amounts of money on candy that we all know will be 75% off at Target the next day. The one day a year that a grown woman will act thrilled to receive a generic stuffed animal.
I’m not an anti-Cupid, but I am a pragmatist. For all of its material obsession, I do think Valentine’s Day has a good meaning at heart. It’s all about love, and who doesn’t want a little love in their life? (By the way, there’s a girl selling jars of love in the Montgomery Lounge, if you feel you can’t find any.)
In honor of Valentine’s Day, the Billboard Hot 100 released a list titled “Top 50 ‘Love’ Songs of All Time,” ranking hot 100 hits from over the decades that have the word “love” in the song title. Songs range from “Baby Love” by the Supremes (1964), to “Part-Time Lover” by Stevie Wonder (1985), and “We Found Love” by Rihanna feat. Calvin Harris (2011). You can check out the entire list here.
If you’ve got a sweet heart this Friday (or two named Ben & Jerry), still make sure to take some time out for yourself to do what you love. Like, say, find some new music to jam out to?
Oh, and has someone broken your achy breaky heart recently? Maybe this new rendition of the 1993 Billy Ray Cyrus classic will cheer you up…or just weird you out. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=72WhEqeS6AQ
Happy Valentine’s Day!
