Out of nowhere, last Monday on 11/25, Lana Del Rey announced her new album in an Instagram post called "The right person will stay". I wanted to speculate on this release and see what we can get out of the small amount of information we got in her announcement post.
<< What We Know >>
Shown here is the picture included with the album announcement. Not only is it a very simple cover, but it also isn't in the typical aspect ration for an album cover, which is obviously a 1:1 square. This makes me believe that this isn't the exact cover and is either an extended version of the actual cover, or this is simply a visual for the album to give us a teaser. The album is slated for a May 21st 2025 release, which is actually a long time and its shocking we are getting such an early announcement when she hasn't even released a single for this album yet or started the promotion for it. It's definitely an interesting choice, but maybe we will learn more about it in the coming weeks. To add on to what we know, the album will seemingly have 13 tracks and is produced by Luke Robert Laird, Jack Antonoff, and Drew Erickson, who have all collaborated with Lana in the past. What we can hope for right now is a single announcement, which Lana typically does before releasing an album. I can't predict exactly what this album is going to sound like, but there was a lot of speculation for a long time about Lana's next album being a country album. This is because Lana had told interviewers and journalists about a potential album she was working on called "Lasso" and then it was radio silence about the project for a long time. However, in a interview she had with Vogue Italia, she said that the album took a shift from typical American country and headed to a more "southern gothic" vibe. Many
were excited because this sounded like an interesting new concept, as Lana had said that the previous project had too much "American flair". However, the validity of these claims are up in the air, as Lana clarified under an Instagram post that Vogue Italia might have mistranslated what she said, specifically stating "I think there may be a mistake in the Italian translation of what I said". That puts us in a weird situation where we can't quite make any conclusions about her statements in the interview, as they may be Image by @motherlanaonly on Instagram
statements in the interview, as they may be mistranslated. But on the other side of the coin, if these statements were absolutely false, wouldn't have Lana just made it clear and stated that those statements weren't true? It's worth thinking about.
>> My Hopes and Expectations <<
Because of Lana's amazing and unique songwriting, I almost always look forward to her music as I can be sure that it's going to be new and a refreshing and make me think about the deeper meaning of what she's singing about. I already know shes going to deliver on the vocals, I'm not too concerened about that. What I am wary for is the production, because if I'm honest, I'm not too sure that I'm looking for a typical-old country album from Lana right now. Country has had a surge in the general mainstream and culture in the last year, and honestly I've had my fair share. Im ready to see who's gonna push the bar further, and usually I can look to Lana to do that, but if she's just gonna be releasing the same music as most other artists in the last year, then I'm worried I won't be as excited for it. However, even if it does turn out to be a country album, I'll obviously give it a fair chance and maybe I will actually find something to enjoy in it. I am really curious as to what Lana's definition of southern gothic would be like, but again that might not even be a genre we see on the album as stated earlier on. I would love another album similar to either "NFR!" or "Chemtrails Over The Country Club". Based on the picture, I don't think it will be similar to "NFR!" but I can still dream yknow... As for "Chemtrails Over The Country Club", I think based on the image we have that that might be a possibility, and if so, that would make me super happy.
>> Final Thoughts <<
To wrap up here, it goes without saying that there's a lot of mystery surrounding this album at the moment and we aren't really sure what to expect. Lana always likes to keep her fans on their toes, and this random announcement is all the proof you need for that. While May 21st may be a long ways away, hopefully we will get a single or two to tide us over until the full album comes out. Until then, all we can do is speculate.
Thanks for reading!
