So…some of you might be wondering why I didn’t post last week.
Well, I forgot! That’s summer vacation for you.
I could say that I sprained my ankle and my computer cord stopped working on me (both true), but that’s no excuse. On the bright side, I did munch my way through a good half of the load of books I picked up from the library, so my time was not utterly wasted.
I think we can all agree though, that summer vacation becomes a bit of a distant dream once you’re out of high school (or even before). Me? I’ve got an unpaid internship to pay for -ironic how you have to pay for the class to get credit, but no compensation!-, summer school to work around and if I can, a few odd jobs to work in between so my parents don’t have to pay the bills.
Oh, I’m not complaining. I like the challenge. And I tell you, not having to think about what homework is due when is a FANtastic feeling, ‘especially when your room looks like Hurricane Katrina passed by (bad joke, I know) and you’ve got unpaid bills a mile long to catch up on. So when I get all my important errands done in one morning, it’s quite a nice feeling!
So here’s a shout-out to all you students who feel like school is never going to end:
I’ve been there. No, really, I have. Ex-homeschooler here. I’ve been through more summer school than most juvenile delinquents.
And it will end. I promise. All the extra hours you’re picking up to pay tuition, thankless jobs, late-night classes, missing out on summer days to get those credits in; it’s all going somewhere. I mean, it would suck if you’ve just realized that you’re doing something you really didn’t want to, but don’t stress about it. That’s part of the learning process. Better than being stuck in a dead-end job you hate for the rest of your life.
I know I’m rambling, so I’ll end here. Just try to enjoy where you are now, because believe me, worrying about the future only gives you a headache.
In fact, I think I can feel one coming on now…back to lounging!
