If This World Were Mine...

By: Brenda Leyva

Friday morning came with a big surprise. Kendrick Lamar dropped his latest album, GNX. It wasn’t just music, it was an experience. Kendrick is known for pushing limits, and this album does just that. One song that really stands out is “Luther,” where he blends lyrics with unique sounds to create something unforgettable.

Luther

“Luther ft. SZA" is one of those songs that makes you stop and listen. Kendrick pulls inspiration from Luther Vandross. The song feels like a conversation between past and present, with Kendrick’s sharp lyrics playing off the smooth, soulful sample that runs through it.

It’s not just the lyrics that make “Luther” special; it’s the way Kendrick uses every part of the song to tell a story. The melodies, the rhythms, and even the pauses work together to create something deep and meaningful.

SZA’s voice adds something special to the track. Her smooth and soulful tone fits perfectly with Kendrick’s energy. The way their styles work together makes this collaboration feel effortless. It’s not just a feature, it’s a true partnership where both artists bring out the best in each other.

Kendrick and SZA always create something memorable when they team up. “Luther” is a great example of how their chemistry takes a song to the next level. From the lyrics to the vibe, everything about this track just works.

The Mariachi Influence

What really sets GNX apart is how Kendrick mixes different musical styles. In “Luther,” he brings in mariachi music. This might seem unexpected, but Kendrick makes it work beautifully. You can hear trumpets and guitars in the background. It feels like he’s connecting different cultures and showing how music can bring people together. This choice also shows how fearless Kendrick is when it comes to experimenting with his art. Not only this, but Kendrick uses this to bring his culture, LA, in the album.

The Visual Experience

Kendrick doesn’t stop with just the music, GNX also comes with visuals that bring the songs to life. The video for “Luther” shows deserts and mariachi musicians, connecting the visuals to the music in a way that feels real and raw. It’s clear that every part of this album was carefully thought out.

Why GNX Matters

With GNX, Kendrick continuously reminds me why he’s one of the greatest artists of our time. He’s not afraid to try new things, honor the past, and create something that feels both personal and universal. “Luther” is the perfect example of this.
