A small look into Final Fantasy XV (15 for those of you not good with roman numerals)
“I want to ride my chocobo all day,” sings Prompto as he and his friends run through the fictional world of Eos. (In the game,
a chocobo is a type of bird you can use to fly around the world in, after fighting this huge creature hurting them. The group in
the game will also be sometimes referred to as the “Chocobros”).
School has been killer lately and I haven’t had time to play any games lately. This past weekend however, I didn’t have much
going on, so I decided to jump back into Final Fantasy XV.
Final Fantasy XV is an open world role playing game developed by Square Enix and came out for Playstation 4 and Xbox One
in 2016. I am currently playing this game on my PS4, and while I prefer Xbox, this game is beautiful on the PS4.
A pic of the main guys-from left, Ignis, Gladio, Noctis, and Prompto
To quote what the game is about from Wikipedia, “Final Fantasy XV takes place on the fictional world of Eos; aside from the
kingdom of Lucis, all the world is dominated by the empire of Niflheim, who seek control of the magical Crystal protected by
Lucis’s royal family. On the eve of peace negotiations, Niflheim attacks the capital of Lucis and steals the Crystal. Noctis Lucis
Caelum, heir to the Lucian throne, goes on a quest to rescue the Crystal and defeat Niflheim. He later learns his full role as the
“True King”, destined to use the Crystal’s powers to save Eos from plunging into eternal darkness”. Throughout the story, you
will be stopped by many other characters who need your help. Side quests will be a big part of this game to explore and level
up. Driving in the groups car, the Regalia, will help you get from place to place, and can even take you out of your way to
explore new areas. Your companions will fight alongside you, and help you up, if you fall during battle. The fights can be
tough, as potions are expensive, and if you don’t have the funds to spare, you might end up doing a fight a couple of different
times. The guys in your group are pretty good, and help you out as much as they can.
The game and scenery is beautiful and even the characters in the game recognize this. Prompto will ask if you can stop on the
side of the road to take a picture of the gang, with a beautiful sight in the background. When driving, you can have the option
to have music. The music includes new songs, and songs from previous Final Fantasy games. The music is calming, and
entertaining to listen to, as the drive from place to place can sometimes be over 5 minutes.
The combat is also pretty cool, as button mashing just doesn’t work. You have to warp to different places for advantage, or do
a warp attack for more damage. Health packs and potions are key, but if you run out, your squad will always be there to help
you back up in the fight. You can switch to the three other guys, when their special attacks are ready, and do a hefty amount of
damage. Don’t do what I do though-try to take on a level 54 creature when my squad is only level 15. It never ends well. Plan
your attacks, and don’t get greedy, and they’ll run smoothly.
This game is a few years old, but still worth a shot to check out, if you haven’t. I am not super far into it, but I am enjoying
what I have played so far. The characters are great, and make you want to dive deeper into the story. Matt Mercer even voices
a character! If you like open world, action, RPGs, and have been debating about diving into the story of this one, I highly
recommend doing so, you won’t regret it! I have never played a Final Fantasy game before, and it’s very easy to jump right
into this one. You don’t miss anything from any of the other games!
Rating: 8/10
(Only an 8/10 because I am not super far, and can only rate what i’ve seen/played so far)
