graveyard of ideas

"killing your darlings" is a common phrase among writers referring to the necessity of cutting parts of your work. no matter how much you like it or how long you worked on it, if the writing doesn't serve your project, it must be stoically discarded.
most of what i write usually ends up getting thrown away. for instance, i worked on a long-term project last semester and ended up with over twenty pages of material that didn't make the final cut.
blogging is very new to me, and i'm still experimenting with what fits and what doesn't. what do i find worth pursuing? what can i fully develop in a week? what do i have to say? during this process, i've frankly produced a copious amount of waste.
here lies some blog ideas that never made it above ground:
a review of a raisin in the sun
for my first blog, i was originally going to go the route of a more traditional review, going into detail on the performances and set design. i'm not exactly sure what i was thinking with this one. this is the first play i've seen in my adult life and i don't even know that much about theater.

"The entire scene is bathed in a soft amber light. Behind the stage, sepia-toned photos of South Side Chicago are projected onto scattered screens. Geometric beams outline the edges of the small apartment, letting the audience peer into each bedroom. A couch, doubling as a makeshift bed, sits at the heart of the living room."

gendered victories at the oscars
i wanted to do an oscars opinion piece on the similarities of the 2024 and 2025 best actor/actress winners: cillian murphy in oppenheimer, adrien brody in the brutalist, emma stone in poor things, and mikey madison in anora. it was put on the back burner for so long that the moment had passed and the oscars became a stale subject. i'm still really interested in this topic. might come back to it in 2026.
"one can pinpoint a gendered difference in conflict. the man must escape the cage of the mind, while the woman must escape the confines of the body."

playboi carti's music
on december 25th, 2020, whole lotta red came out, and i hated it. after a couple more listens, i still hated it. after an eleventh listen, and some peer pressuring, it finally clicked. there was once a time when i listened to WLR once a day, just to feel something. after five long treacherous years, carti's next album music finally came out. i kinda hate it (fr this time) and i don't see myself writing an entire blog on it. here are some of the okayest songs from the bunch:
philly
