Some of you are probably thinking, “Um, UIC already graduated, you imposter!”
Don’t worry, I’m not talking about me. Today is the high school graduation of my baby sister and I couldn’t be happier!
It kinda takes you back, doesn’t it? I mean, whether you’re a transfer student coming from some state or out-of-country school, community college (COD rocks!!) or have been to UIC for all four years, you probably remember graduating from some kind of high school or secondary program. Maybe you went to a small rural school where you knew everyone in your class or a huge feeder school with hundreds in each grade. Maybe you were a band kid, ran for the student council, wrote for the school newspaper, played a sport…or did nothing because you were too busy blowing off homework and hanging with friends 😉
Whatever high school experience you had, it’s still interesting to look back from where you are now and notice the changes. I mean, who would have thought that the weird, theatre-crazy scholarship kid would end up at a big city school? For me, high school has a lot of memories. When I was that homeschool girl with the strange clothes, I had no idea where I’d end up. Now, here I am, studying, enjoying and experiencing so much more than I’d have ever imagined.
Of course, back then, I wanted to be an FBI agent. Hey, a girl’s gotta dream!
Nauseating trip down memory lane aside, I’m just grateful for where I am and how much it took to get here. Can’t wait for my own graduation day!
And speaking of, congrats little sis, I’m really proud of you! Now for a good graduation song…
