Face Readings Are A No No

aadri17

Have you ever seen a video talking about why a certain facial feature someone has dictates something about their lives? The ones that say a wide forehead means high intelligence, or that a strong jawline means leadership potential. Surprisingly, a disturbingly large amount of people actually believe this pseudoscience, which falls under physiognomy. ~Check out Abby Cox's Youtube video "We Need to Talk about TikTok's Obsession with Face Reading and its Dark History" for a more detailed explanation. Let's be so for real right now, this is in no way a harmless belief. Physiognomy has been discredited after a long history of it being used for racist actions against POC. This concept has dark roots in history that should never repeat...ever. It was used to justify discrimination, perpetuate harmful stereotypes, and even justify oppressive actions like genocide, ethnic cleansing, colonization, and racial superiority. It's disturbing that despite being proven false, it has somehow innocently resurfaced on platforms like TikTok. The idea that you can determine someone’s character or future based on the genetic structure of their face isn’t just inaccurate—it’s dangerous. Let’s focus on truly understanding people through their actions, not reducing them to surface-level, harmful stereotypes based on their appearance.
