Friendly Hello and Introduction!
Hello hello hello!! I hope you're all doing wonderful!! This semester is rapidly closing in--way faster than I thought it would be. That being said, there are a few things I'd like to put out there.
Firstly, I have recently been invited to work with a queer collective group called Double Moon Collective! I'm working as a creative director and will help plan, set up, host, and promote events that foster a loving community for all those who are queer. I haven't spoken out about who I am on this blog, and it's not my goal to center my writing around me. But I am a non-binary queer person who has actively been surrounded by so many beautiful people in the LGBTQIA+ community. My nearest and dearest friends are part of this community, and with the recent administration that has come into power this year, I am scared for the people who I know, who are in the closet, and who I have never met before. I find building community and maintaining strength through quality and numbers incredibly important. I am doing my undergraduate studies here at UIC as a sociology major and intend to become a social worker. I specifically want to specialize and help women and queer people of all backgrounds, so to be asked to be part of this is something I'm so incredibly grateful for.
We will be hosting a range of events, and more will be published soon, but the upcoming event is on April 12th at 8 P.M. Information is posted on Instagram (@doublemooncollective). Still, we strongly encourage all queer people who are interested to come and join us!
Second, I have decided to create a Substack, and I will continue to post regularly outside of UIC Radio when the school season is not in session. It would mean many consistent readers would consider checking it out once this semester is over! This is a true passion of mine, and having an outlet to write about media is incredibly cathartic https://elephantsgraveyard.substack.com/
Lastly, I'm still working on my Instagram promo for this blog :-) If anyone is interested and is reading this now-- YOU CAN STILL PARTICIPATE!! You can still send me a video of you and your friends yelling, "I love Elephant's Graveyard." It's a shameless plug, BUT IDC!!! That's how u grow an audience.
So! Now that all of the administrative stuff is out of the way, I was thinking about something mildly entertaining for you and me. I've been in a mild rut creatively as of late just because I am chronically stressed and struggling to manage school independently, let alone figuring out something to write that isn't mid. So! I compiled ten albums, and I think you- the reader- should check out if you haven't already!!
