In observance of Lung Cancer awareness month, The Dr. Paula Show will be re-airing our interview with Dr. Robert Winn, M.D on Tuesday, November 15th at 11 AM. The show will feature discussions about health disparities observed with respect to cancer diagnoses among culturally diverse populations and the actions taken by the U of I Cancer Center to reduce them through community based research. For more information on lung cancer prevention, screening, treatment and research, visit this

Dr. Winn is Associate Vice Chancellor for Community Based Practice and Director of the University of Illinois Cancer Center. He is a specialist in pulmonary and critical care medicine with a keen interest in using community-based research to help reduce health disparities. As part of the leadership team at UI Health’s Mile Square Health Center, Dr. Winn helped develop an innovative model for the delivery of health care for the newest Mile Square facility, which opened in 2014. The center offers an unprecedented range of specialty services on site, including mammography. It is the only federally qualified health center in Chicago to offer urgent care — a departure from the typical community clinic. Dr. Winn also runs a basic science translational research lab that focuses on mechanisms that drive cellular proliferation that leads to early cell death and thus lung cancer.
