Drafted the #11 pick in 2014, Chicago Bulls SF Doug McDermott was given little opportunity to show his full capabilities during his 2014-15 rookie season due to injury and the coaching decisions of former Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau. However, McDermott didn’t let his injury or his sub-par season keep him from taking the 2015 Summer League by storm, where he averaged almost 19 points and 4 rebounds per game. His impressive play and consistency did not go unnoticed as he was included in the All-NBA Summer League 1st Team among other top summer league performers.
After a long off-season and five preseason games under his belt, it seems as if he hasn’t looked back once. With a new coaching staff in place and a new-found freedom offensively for all of the Bulls players, Doug McDermott showed no hesitation in taking full advantage of his opportunity. In just five games, he averaged about 17 points off the bench, shooting 47% from the field and 43% from behind the arc.
Although it’s only preseason, you can see how McDermott’s confidence has grown over the past year. If he can continue his momentum throughout the regular season, sooner than later, teams are going to have to start studying this guy’s scouting report. Look out, NBA. #MCBUCKETShttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jjL1G6GvSpU
