Digital Photography Inspiration

Francesca Dukala

I like to think I have quite the knack for a good photo op. Growing up, I was always fascinated by the aesthetics of the mundane and would imagine how to capture the perfect shot. As children are, I was usually caught up in other hobbies and activities so I never thought too deeply about taking photography seriously as I got older. I assumed it was too expensive, and with all the gear I thought I needed to take photos I would like, it wouldn't be worth it in the long run. That is, until earlier this month, I remembered my family had this old Canon digital camera from the early 2000s. It has the perfect charm to it and that warm nostalgic digital quality. After some research, I found that the model I have is actually pretty popular among people my age who like to elevate their photos with more appeal than that of a smartphone camera, which inspired me further.

Apart from photography itself piquing my interest again, especially since moving to Chicago and seeing some of its sights, I have come to develop an affinity with "vintage" items in general. I'm not saying a camera from the 2000s necessarily qualifies as vintage, but it's definitely more antiquated than the technology we have now. This camera, in particular sort of feels like a talisman attached to my childhood. So, like most young adult women, I have been enjoying spending ample time on Pinterest finding inspiration for this new-to-me camera that I'd like to share here. And who knows, maybe soon I will have honed my skills and have an album of my own photos to post!

All of the above were shot using a camera from the Canon Powershot series.

Each photo definitely has an old-school vibe. It’s such a lost art… so nice to see!
