Dead to Me, starring Christina Applegate and Linda Cardillini, is an addicting comedy-drama series jam-packed with suspense. The writing is phenomenal, perfectly tying dark humor and plot twists into each episode. This is definitely one of the best shows I’ve watched in a while, I easily binge-watched all three seasons in two weeks.
The first episode starts with Jen (Christina Applegate) begrudgingly joining a grief group to mourn the death of her husband, who died in a hit-and-run. There she meets Judy (Linda Cardellini), her polar opposite, who becomes one of the best friends she’s ever had. Together they deal with the ups and downs of loss in their own way. The first episode hooks you in with its witty characters and an unpredictable plot twist that leaves you wanting more.
Although some reviews say that the show dragged on after the second season, I really loved how the last season tied the entire show together. The first season was by far the best, but by the third, I loved the characters too much to care if the plot was falling off. The show really picked up towards the end with the uncertainty of how things would turn out.
Despite all of the mystery and tragedy, this show is also really wholesome with themes of found family and female friendship. The pacing is done really nicely and each season builds off the previous one. The ending was unbelievably sad but matched the show completely. I liked how the characters stayed true to themselves throughout the show but still showed a ton of character development. Overall, I’d say this show is a must watch. Each episode leaves you in suspense, making it too easy to binge watch.
