Claude Vonstroke, Purity Ring at NCMF

It’s been a crazy and awesome week here at UIC. Today the UIC Radio crew set out to rock out the Quad at today’s Involvement Fair East. For those of you who came out and enjoyed the nice weather, delicious nachos and funnel cakes– I’m sure we can agree that it was a pretty damn awesome event. What’s best is that we had people coming up to the booth rappin’, dancin’ and showing off some vocal skills all for the price of a Spark in the Park shirt!

As mentioned last week, we had a UIC Radio representative hit up North Coast Music Festival to check out the buzz. Because I’m a big fan of Detroit House and Deep House I had to check out the Last Stand Stage for the big man Claude Vonstroke!  Now here’s a guy who put out a cool show without having to jump around, get off stage and surf the crowd. NOPE, Vonstroke keeps it cool by just playing some damn cool tunes.  After catching up with Vonstroke we set out to watch the last of Purity Ring‘s set. For those of you unfamiliar with Purity Ring, just imagine a modern Blondie with a cool electronic twist. Like most artist you can’t expect a live performance to match the recorded and studio produced product, but this wasn’t the case. Purity Ring held the same performance as their studio work of course with the flamboyant flare of a live performance. While listening to There’s a chilling sensation after watching Megan James bang the huge drum in the middle of the stage. And of course Corin Roddick had an important role as the electronic percussionist flashing high and low plosive sounds into the airwaves. Very Nice! -Memo
