Album Reviews of 2014, Pt. 2

Here are the last four albums that made my list in 2014. Who will take the top spot? Read on to find out!

4. Mac Demarco- Salad Days Mac DeMarco’s latest release, Salad Days, showed a more…mature (?) side to Mac..? Okay honestly with a title like Salad Days, it’s hard to tell. But DeMarco’s guitar riffs and the “la la la” backing vocals make listening easy. Well produced to the point of intentional low-fi quality, this follow album does not disappoint. Notable tracks: Salad Days, Let Her Go, Let My Baby Stay

  1. Karen O- Crush Songs Crush Songs by Karen O of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs is just so cute and so sweet and gosh don’t you just want to fall in love and be happy and then get crushed by your emotions and run in the cold to your kitschy little apartment in that oh-so trendy neighborhood and cry on your hardwood floors while staring into the darkness that lives under your claw foot tub and eat a ton of vegan ice cream? Same! Notable tracks: honestly all of them

  1. Lana Del Rey- Ultraviolence Lana Del Rey told her fans she wouldn’t be making a sophomore album…well, she lied. And thank goodness for that. Ultraviolence is an emotional auditory gift from the musical gods above. Produced by Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys, listeners are ushered through a glimpse of a sepia tinted world where old money and new money still wave from across the bay, the American Dream never went to sleep, and in a classic Del Rey move, sadness is stricken with beauty. Notable tracks: again, all of it

  1. Julian Casablancas + The Voidz- Tyranny

OH YES. YES. YES! THANK YOU. Julian Casablancas + The Voidz…you really don’t want to get me started. Really, please, for your sake and mine. Sure, I’m incredibly biased, because Julian Casablancas is my everything, but his group The Voidz are just spectacular. Seriously, these musicians are incredibly talented, and they dress well, too. Experimental and loud, this album is not one to ignore. Notable tracks: Father Electricity, Nintendo Blood, Dare I Care

Have a happy and musical 2015! Kailei
