Recently on 4 CHI CITY RADIO, Chi City Hip Hop artist Abstrak Mind came through with his latest single “For You”. Here’s a recap of his interview.
Name your top five favorite artists? Any genre… Dead or Alive
2Pac, Michael Jackson, Prince, Jay Z, Outkast/Bone Thugs N Harmony…
I choose these artists because at some point they changed the land scape of music with their talents. Pac for his emotion and passion, Michael for his limitless creativity, Prince for being remarkably different with his approach musically (Prince can never be replaced), Jay-Z broke down boundaries and became bigger than music like the others mentioned before him. However he was so honest about who he was and what he represented yet he’s still making million dollar deals outside of music with some of the wealthiest and powerful people in the world. Outkast and Bone Thugs N Harmony brought so much flavor and flair as groups. They’ve equally made some of the greatest HipHop records ever associated with the craft. They can’t be denied…
What inspired you to become a Hip Hop artist/ songwriter?
It was Gods plan! Literally this is Gods work… not mine. Never wanted to be a songwriter but for some reason, God placed this ability and opportunity in my hands and allowed me to be great at it. I’m very fortunate and don’t take it for granted.
Tell us about one of your biggest accomplishments as an artist?
Gaining a life long fan and friend in one of my biggest supporters named Fuji. She saw me perform a few years back and has followed and inspired me to continue to be great. I can’t believe I’ve touched somebody like that through writing raps!! It’s truly an honor!! http://youtu.be/up5_JVL9Lgk What is something you want people to know about you as an artist?
I just want to unite us as people through the music. It’s never about being compensated financially, which is why I do so many things free of charge, for a good cause. Musically we’ve already broke down barriers but it could go so much further if we allow it.

What do you hate & what do you love about Chicago?
As musicians and artists, I wish we were less divided. We could really take over if we wanted to… but it’s so much pride amongst us! We let every other city outshine our own. But things are getting better.
What I love about Chicago, is that it’s such a diverse culture here. It’s just a melting point of everything you could want and imagine.
