As festival season approaches, I thought I would let you all in on a bit of insight.
When you are planning on purchasing tickets to a festival you may want to attend, ask yourself this: “Am I going to this festival for the right reasons?”
What are these reasons? First off, a music festival is primarily about one thing: music. So when you hear about the newest music festival coming up that all or some of your friends are going to, the first step is to consider whether or not you actually like the music. How many of the bands do you actively listen to? How many have you even heard of? How much of these artists’ music do you actually like?
Next, a music festival is supposed to be an exciting, fun experience for you to enjoy. So if you think you will dig the music there, ask yourself this question next: “Do I want to remember the events that happen at this music festival?”
Let me reiterate: there is a huge difference between going to a music festival to enjoy the music and the good times you have with friends, versus going to get “turnt up” and party for 3 or more days to music you might not even like all that much.
I feel that the intentions of a music festival have changed by society into a supposed way to get completely out of your own conscious mindset and repeatedly wait for the bass to drop. Yes, it’s okay to party, to enjoy yourself, and to have fun (which is the whole idea), but don’t you want to remember how much fun you had throughout the festival?
There are endless ways one could have fun at a music festival. All I’m saying a music festival is intended to help you enjoy good music, good friends, good vibes, and make good memories you’ll love.
Get “turnt up” for 3+ days if you want to. Don’t remember anything if you want to. (Note: this is not saying go ahead and go crazy and wind up in the hospital, or worse! If you intend on doing these things, make sure you do these things safely and legally!!!).
But if you’re only attending a festival because you heard it’s the “cool” thing to do and you want to get turnt up out of your mind, you might want to reevaluate your decision to go.
With that, let me share with you a short, 3 minute film that I think accurately depicts what a music festival should be like:
What do you think? Agree? Disagree? What do you think people should go to a festival for? Comment and let me know!
