Drake -one of my favorite rappers (besides Kanye, Jay-z, Meek Mill’s, Tupac, and the Beastie Boys)-is one of the most popular artists out right now, duh! People are enthralled by his beautiful face, metaphors that cut through your soul, and his hard core representation of Toronto. But what many people don’t know, is Drake’s amazing producer, mixer, sound engineer, and BFF Noah “40” Shebib. Since I, as well as most young women, am in love with Drake; I can’t be proud of Drake without praising his producer.
Most people enjoy Drake songs because of his honesty (sometimes called softness) and the beat in the background. In all honesty, Drake would NOT be the entertaining force he is without his introduction to the sounds of 40 when he was just a young lad. The difference in 40’s range, use of technology, and genre of beats in pretty darn spectacular for a Toronto based producer. Even though 40’s music buzzes in my earbuds majority of the day, I think other things about him draw me towards Drake’s music. The fact that 40’s humble (he’s a bit camera shy to say the least), loyal (still has friends from HS that also rock with Drake’s crew), and a fighter (he was diagnosed with MS at the age of 22) kind of gives me a reason to listen to Drake a bit more than I normally would.
The fact that he honestly love’s the friendship he shares with Drake and all the other OVO members is pretty impressive. Let’s be honest, most hip hop friends can NOT stay together due to fortune and fame, it’s kind of a breathe of fresh air to see what 40 does. Not only has he produced his hit for Drake but also for hip hop diva Nicki Minaj, superstar (and MIA) rapper Lil Wayne, and Alicia Keys. He has won about 10 ASCAP awards, nominated for two collaboration Grammy’s, and made at least 15 hit records (the Motto, Take Care, Stay, etc.) I’m pretty sure the list will go on as 40 leaves an impressive mark on the music industry and fans like me.
